What Is Dollars For Scholars?
Wishek Area Dollars for Scholars (WADFS) is a locally operated and supported charitable non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation established in November 1993.  WADFS is a chapter affiliate of Scholarship America, Inc., a nationally recognized non-profit student aid service organization.  Dollars for Scholars began in 1958 in Fall River, Massachusetts by Dr. Irving Fradkin to help local communities raise scholarship money for high school graduates.

What is WADFS' Mission?
Wishek Area Dollars for Scholars' mission is to expand access to higher education by involving and assisting our community in the support of students and in the encouragement of educational achievement.  WADFS believes that any sincere and determined person should have the opportunity to continue his or her education after graduation.

Who is eligible to apply for a WADFS Scholarship?
Any graduating senior of Wishek High School may apply for a scholarship. Applications are available at the high school. Scholarships are awarded according to Scholarship America guidelines. Selection is made by the local chapter committee which considers academics, community service and career goals. The Permanent Fund Endowment has grown to over $131,000 as of November 2008. Scholarships are funded by interest from the permanent Endowment Fund and through student fund raisers. In over 16 years 90 scholarships totaling over $57,000 have been awarded.
