Imagine a hunting oasis where over
4 million breeding ducks are nesting in a region of the Upper Midwest where
permanent wetlands are abundant and full to the brim, providing perfect
habitat for at least 15 species of ducks. Then imagine yourself in
the middle of it all, bagging your limit every day!
Wishek,
in south-
central North Dakota, is part of the Prairie Pothole Region that includes
North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. One of the most spectacular
events in nature occurs here each fall as tens of thousands of ducks and
geese gather for their trip south on the Central Flyway. That means
one thing---simply incredible hunting that's among the best you'll find
anywhere! Wishek is also in the heart of the Missouri Coteau,
a 35,000 square mile area of the U.S. Great Plains and southern Canada.
Ducks Unlimited recently received a $3 million gift from the Richard King
Mellon Foundation to launch a new initiative to protect critical wildlife
habitat in this region. This means years of excellent waterfowl hunting
opportunities.
You'll want to come back year after year!

When
you catch buck fever, we've got the cure! Each November, Area 2H,
south of Wishek, boasts one of the biggest deer habitats in the state,
and the big bucks and does are always found here. Area 2I, north
of Wishek, has plenty of sloughs and hills to test your skills. And
most landowners have been very cooperative, welcoming visiting hunters
back year after year. Your next deer hunting trip should be here!
The N.D. Game and Fish Department has worked
with the local wildlife club on several occasions to update and promote
the area's great hunting and fishing opportunities.
Come see for yourself!
Wishek
Wildlife members, as well as a few local landowners and hunting enthusiasts
have released over 2000 pheasants since 1995. |
